About the Conference

The 60th CIRP Conference on Manufacturing Systems (CIRP CMS 2027) will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 12 to 14 May 2027. The conference is hosted by TU Wien and co-hosted by Fraunhofer Austria. As a landmark edition, CIRP CMS 2027 will provide an international platform for the presentation and discussion of scientific advances, methodological contributions, and industrial applications in the broad domain of manufacturing systems.

The conference is held under the theme Deep Tech Manufacturing Ecosystems. This theme reflects the growing importance of deep technologies in shaping future production and logistics systems that are not only technologically advanced, but also sustainable, adaptive, resilient, and human-centered. In this context, deep tech is understood as a driver of transformative change, enabling new forms of intelligence, connectivity, autonomy, and collaboration across industrial value creation.

CIRP CMS is closely linked to CIRP STC O – Production Systems and Organizations, which addresses the optimized design, modelling, orchestration, management, and operation of sustainable and societally conscious production systems. Such systems encompass work cells, production lines, factories, networks, service systems, and other value-generating industrial organizations. Against this background, the conference serves as a dedicated scientific forum for examining how production systems can be conceptualized, organized, and operated in response to contemporary industrial, environmental, and societal challenges.

Particular attention will be given to the interplay between digitalization, sustainability, autonomy, and human participation in manufacturing ecosystems. The conference aims to advance knowledge on how deep technological capabilities can be embedded into production systems in ways that strengthen operational excellence, support circularity and resilience, and create meaningful roles for human expertise within increasingly intelligent industrial environments.
